There are so many great reasons to play a digital or acoustic piano. In addition to being able to always entertain guests, piano players reap other benefits of learning music. Research shows that playing an instrument improves hand-eye coordination, memory, and learning ability.
- Benefits the Brain
Playing piano requires the brain to coordinate the use of your hands, feet, eyes, and ears simultaneously. Studies from multiple researchers show that music improves brain functions like neuronal activity and long-term memory.
- Increases Self-Esteem
The acquisition of a new skill improves self-esteem in both children and adults. Mastering the piano allows you to entertain yourself and those around you by utilizing a talent many simply don’t have.
- Boosts Learning Ability
Learning how to play the piano exposes you to rhythm, mathematics, and art. Learning piano or another musical instrument enhances the way you retain and apply new information. According to the National Education Longitudinal Study, abstract reasoning skills are improved by music study.
- Offers Entertainment
Piano players are instant sources of entertainment. Those who learn to play piano make gatherings more fun and can inspire others to sing and join in. Playing the piano is an enjoyable and easy way to bring live music to get-togethers and parties.
- Is Easier to Learn Other Instruments
There’s a reason why so many musicians start off on piano; the keys of the piano clearly represent the musical scale. They give the player a visual representation of note values, chord formations, and harmony. Piano players also must learn to play both the bass and treble parts at the same time, all while keeping rhythm. For these reasons, piano players tend to pick up additional instruments easier than non-piano players.

Proper cleaning of your piano will help it retain its look and sound. A principal material in pianos is wood. Just like other wood furnishings, your piano is vulnerable to dust and moisture that can cause damage. Check out these tips for cleaning your piano’s exterior and its keys.
Dust the Piano
Use a feather duster or microfiber cloth to dust your piano. The accumulation of dust can dampen the instrument’s sound at the least and damage the inner mechanics at worst. Dust can also scratch your piano’s beautiful surface. Once you’ve dusted the outside, open up the piano and lightly dust the strings and hammers on the inside.
Polish Carefully
Polishing should be performed only every once in a while. If your piano is in desperate need of polishing, ask your salesmen or a licensed piano tuner for recommendations on specific polishing products. Use a polish that won’t damage the structural integrity of the piano housing; damage can affect the sound and value of your piano. A non-silicone furniture polish or wax with a lacquer or varnish finish is best in most cases. Always avoid harsh rubbing and use soft cloths.
Disinfect Piano Keys
Lots of hands will touch all 88 of your piano’s keys throughout its lifetime. For this reason, it’s important to rid piano keys of oils and dead skin cells. As with most piano cleaning procedures, you’ll want to avoid harsh chemicals. A mild soap diluted in filtered water is best for general cleaning. Use a lightly dampened, soft cloth to wipe the keys free of debris. Make sure you continually dry the piano keys as you clean. You want to avoid excess moisture that could seep between your piano keys and cause damage.
