Watch: Parts of a Piano
Pianos may seem like just a big wooden box with some stings on the inside, but there is so much more to this historic instrument than that. To help you recognize a well-built piano and appreciate the sound that comes out of it, learn about the various parts of a piano in this video.
The harp is a large metal cast iron structure that holds the strings taut to the lynch pin at the far end of the piano. Under the hood and below the harp is the sound board. This is usually made of an Engelmann’s spruce or Sitka wood. Dampers sit above the strings and stop the sound when applied. Watch this video to learn more about the parts of a piano.
